Mazda’s Venerable CX-5 Stands The Test Of Time

The Mazda CX-5 continues to outperform compact SUV competition from the likes of Chevy and Toyota. While its more expensive CX-50 big brother recently debuted to great fanfare, Mazda has continued the CX-5 without change, even though it debuted in current form in 2017. As such, the CX-5 is a great way to save money, a vehicle for which Mazda has excellent incentives. You just might be able to get an amazing price on the sporty CX-5!

A highly-rated 9 out of 10 by Car and Driver, the CX-5 comes with a base 187 horsepower four cylinder, or a turbocharged version with 256 horsepower, the same engines in the new CX-50. Both versions have a six speed auto. Apple and Android smartphone integration to the 10.3 center display are standard.  All-wheel drive is optional, and the CX-5 is a very fun vehicle to drive for the SUV segment.

The CX-5 is a 2023 IIHS top safety pick. The CX-5 offers 23 MPG city and 29 MPG highway in base trim, and 22/27 MPG for turbo. Six colors are offered, including machine grey metallic (+$595), soul red crystal metallic (+$595), rhodium white metallic (+$595), platinum quartz metallic, jet black mica, and deep crystal blue mica. Models with the entry level engine will be more attractive to cost conscious buyers due to the higher cost of entry on the turbo model.

The base 2.5S Select CX-5 starts at $28,570 msrp and includes a ton of standard features, including the SKYACTIV 2.5 liter inline four, 6 speaker Mazda Harmonic Acoustics audio system, blind spot monitoring, full power options, push button start, and all but the 2.5S have 18 inch alloy wheels and dual zone (vs. single zone) air conditioning. 2.5 S Select adds leatherette trimmed seats, and heated front seats with three temperatures, starting at $29,900 msrp. 2.5S Preferred starts at $31,250 msrp and adds leather trimmed seats, power sliding glass moon-roof, and 8 way power adjustable driver’s seat.

Turbo models start at $37,000 msrp for the 2.5 Carbon turbo, adding the SKYACTIVE 2.5 liter motor, 19 inch wheels, and Terracotta leather seats. 2.5 Turbo Premium and 2.5 Turbo Signature add features like leather wrapped/red stitched steering wheel, heated rear seats, Nappa leather seats, and off-road navigation system. All turbo models have Mazda’s i-ACTIVE all wheel drive system, as well as sport and off road drive selector modes and paddle shifters.

Right now Mazda has a host of special offers on the CX-5. These include a $290/mo lease offer on CX-5 2.5S Select AWD with $3,999 down. You can also get 0.0% APR for 36 months, and a host of cash reward offers as well, ranging from $500 to $1,000 depending on trim and if you are an existing Mazda lease customer. $500 military discount also exists, as does $500 Mazda loyalty reward program. Be sure to check local dealers as pricing may vary by region.
