Inside Jeep's 4WD Compass SUV

Jeep's been blazing trails since the first Allied Jeeps debuted in World War II, laying the groundwork for our modern-day SUV craze. If you want a quality Jeep without the Grand Cherokee price-tag, enter the Jeep Compass, America's most affordable full time 4 wheel drive SUV. Right now Jeep has a number of great incentives on the Compass. Let's dive in to what makes the Compass a compelling 4WD choice for 2025.

The Compass got a model update for the 2022 model year, although this current second-generation Compass dates back to a 2016 debut. The Compass still makes a compelling value case, however, with its low price of entry and its standard four wheel drive — not even the Grand Cherokee has all wheel drive standard. From its distinctive Jeep look to its legitimate offroad chops, the Compass is the most affordable Jeep on the market, and one of the most affordable 4x4’s as well.

The base Compass Sport 4x4 starts at very affordable $26,900 msrp, in one of seven colors — bright white, baltic-gray metallic, diamong black crystal pearl, fathom blue pearl, hydro blue pearl, red hot pearl, or silver zynith metallic. It gets a more than respectable 24 mpg city and 32 mpg highway. Given the low price of entry, black cloth seats are standard, but Jeep adds to the package with standard 17 inch aluminum wheels, eight speed automatic transmission, 10.1 inch touchscreen with Apply/Android compatibility, remote keyless entry, power 1-touch windows/doors/locks, single-zone air conditioning, a turbocharged engine, a safety suite with forward collision warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross path detection, and pedestrian and cyclist emergency detection.

The Compass Latitude 4x4, adds the ability to have two-tone color combinations, as well as premium cloth / vinyl seating materials, premium wrapped steering wheel, fog lamps and cornering lamps, heated mirrors. Latitude Lux sees the addition of leatherette, as well as 18 inch wheels, heated leather trimmed power front seats, heated steering wheel, and eight way power adjustment for the driver’s seat. Compass Limited, has full leather as an option, and also has standard dual zone air conditioning, remote vehicle start, adaptive cruise, available dual pane sunroof, available Alpine stereo, and available memory/ventilated front seats.

The range-topping Trailhawk model comes with 17 inch painted gloss black aluminum wheels, along with matching gloss black roof, red front and rear tow hooks, and a red hood decal. Trailhawk gets trail rated capability and off-road suspension, along with a rugged all terrain tire. The Trailhawk also gets lower gearing for offroading. Lastly, Trailhawk gets premium cloth and leather trimmed bucket seats.

Power for all Compass models comes from a respectable 2.0L Turbo four, which thankfully has much more power than MOPAR turbo-four’s did in the 80’s. With 200 horsepower and a maximum 221 lb-ft of torque, the Compass more than gets out of its own way. The Compass can tow up to 2,000 pounds as well.

Right now Jeep has a host of excellent offers on the Compass. These include 6.9% APR for 72 months, or “employee pricing plus”. There are also promotional lease rates of $345 a month for 36 months with $3805 down. Be sure to check local dealers for best incentives as they may vary by region.
