There’s a new Honda SUV in town, and it’s the Prologue. With stunning good looks, a wide stance, and trademark Honda reliability, the Prologue is one of the most affordable ways to get your hands on a brand new Honda SUV. Thanks to manufacturer incentives and federal tax credits, Honda’s very first electric car is incredibly affordable. Here’s what you get for your money and why you might consider adapting to Honda’s very first electric car.
The Prologue has an impressive amount of standard equipment and two drivetrain configurations. Prologue EX, the entry-level model, comes with a 296-mile range for 2WD and a 281-mile range for AWD, making it rival a tank of gas on a CR-V. Single motor models have 212 horsepower, while all wheel models have 288 horsepower. Features you won’t have to pay extra for include 19 inch alloys, LED headlights, automatic high beam headlights, heated side mirrors, heated front seats, 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat, dual zone climate control, Apply Carplay/Android Auto with Google built-in, a 11.3 inch color touchscreen display, push button start, and a host of safety and assistance features for blind spots, forward collission, emergency braking, lane keeping, and parking. Prologue EX starts at $47,400 msrp, however, $7,500 clean vehicle federal credits apply depending on your tax bracket. Prologues have also been leasing at heavily incentivized rates.
Upper trims of the Prologue are two, the Touring and the Elite. Touring, $51,700 msrp before incentives and credits, includes a panoramic moonroof, leather-trimmed seats, a Bose stereo system, and a power liftgate with hands free access. Elite comes with dual motor AWD standard, as well as with a Sport driving mode, 21-inch alloy wheels with self-sealing tires, a heads up display, heated and ventilated front seats, welcome exterior lighting, power driver’s seat with two position memory, and a surround vision system. Elite starts at $57,900 msrp.
After sitting on the sidelines of the electric vehicle fray for some time, the Prologue debuted this year for 2024. Sales are starting to increase, and the Prologue was the fifth best selling electric vehicle in Q3 2024. The Prologue shares a drivetrain with the Chevrolet Equinox EV, however the Honda version is heavily Honda-fied, down to multi-link front and rear suspension, and a much more corporate-Honda interior, not to mention the completely different exterior body.
Right now Honda is offering .9% APR for 24 to 60 months on the Prologue, which is an incredibly low rate for a five year loan; they are also offering 2.9% APR for up to 72 months. Honda is also offering $500 off to military members as well as recent graduates, and a $750 Honda Loyalty appreciation offer. Lease deals on the Prologue are where pricing gets interesting. A $7,500 federal EV credit can apply to either the lease or purchase of a Prologue, so $7,500 comes off the top of a Prologue lease. This enables the Prologue AWD EX to lease for $259 a month for 36 months with $2,999 down at signing; other trims lease for not much more. Some local dealers have been spotted offering Prologue leases for even less, at $249 a month with $2,995 down. Such a low lease amount is very attractive given the cost of the Prologue, putting a Prologue lease around the same price as a Honda Civic.
